Joey Arrowsmith

Image
A father and son duo that makes a great team !     Joey Arrowsmith stated that the GTO he currently has is the first car he raced professionally, but It all started with his father. Joey went on to say that they didn't see eye to eye when it came to what they liked. He is a muscle car go as fast as you can guy, where I was into mini-trucks and low-rider's.  After Joey had his own kid he started going back to the track with his father again and fell in love with it all over again. The two have been going strong for 9-10 years now side-by-side racing.                                                                                                                ...

Veli Koivula's LS Kit Car

Image
Veli Koivula is from Finland, and he has drag racing in his blood. He builds some of the most unique cars in Europe, like this one. This was intended to be a an affordable kit car, it's a replica of a Ferrari from the1970's -1980's. The body was intended to be mounted to a small rear engine Fiero or V.W. chassis, but Veli had other plans.     He turned a pile of fiberglass into one of the most unique drag racing cars on the track. It's a mix of Italian style with a high-horsepower American power plant. Underneath the light-weight body is a fully custom built chassis built by Veli himself, It has been SFI certified to 25.1K Specs. Extra features include a double funny cage.  During the fabrication stage   The engine is a General Motors Gen-4 LS 6.0 liter V8 with a Gen-2 Garrett turbo, it specs out at 98 mm. Other goodies include a billet Callies crankshaft and Wiseco pistons.   The engine runs exclusively on Methano...

Lucas Oil Drag Racing at Maple Grove

Image
The Lucas Oil division 1 meet was a hot one, It was 86 degrees and sunny. It was held at Maple Grove Raceway in the heart of God's country, Mohnton, PA.   The turn out was out standing, the pits were packed and people filled the stands. This shows that people are still interested in the sport. The Pro mod class had 32 cars show up for 16 spots, I haven't seen that since the late 1980's  when Englishtown had 32 funny cars.                                                                                   The staging lanes during the last qualifying session on Saturday .                                   ...

1988 Pro/Street Beretta

Image
Back in the 1980's the Pro/Street trend was running hot across America and by the 1990's it was across the whole world. No car was off limits and people dared to be different. The builds were over the top, the cars had eye popping paint and mile-high air-induction systems. It wasn't about how much horsepower you had under the hood or sticking out, it was about who could outdo the next guy at the car show.   Other build styles were still going on at the time like traditional hot rod building and simple street machines were still prowling the streets. But Pro/Street was its own special thing and it still is but with a modern twist.  All the major car magazines featured Pro/Street builds from cover to cover and all the readers drooled over them. I know I did and dreamed to own one day. Car Craft, Hot Rod, Popular Hot Rodding & Super Chevy magazine were the go to publications each month to get your horsepower fix ! I recently came across this 1988 Chevy Bere...
