Michael Michaud
Michael Michaud was born in 1962, during the beginning of the muscle car revolution. His father had some of the coolest cars of the
1960s. He had a 1966 350 H.P. 327 cubic-inch Nova Super Sport, Two 1967 GTOs, a 1968 Z/28 and a 1969 Corvette.
The 1968 Z/28 was Michael's favorite. Michael said he's been a gear-head ever since the 60s.
Michael states that's he's been racing since 2002 and he runs at WIR in Wisconsin. My first trip
to the drag strip with my dad was in 1967. I been hooked on racing my
entire life, I have raced snowmobiles in the 1980s and 90s, I got into
motorcycle racing in 2000 and
built my first drag car in 2014 .
My first actual professional race car was a 1971 Nova called the
Patriot.
Michael's last drag car was a Suncoast tube chassis Camaro with a
582 big-block that he built, it ran 8.04's at 172mph. Mike traded that car for the 68'
Camaro he currently has .
The 68' Camaro has a 489 C.I. big-Block Chevrolet that he originally built for his 71' Nova. Then it sat for 8 years before it was freshened it up with a bigger cam
and new heads ported by Chad Speier
of SRH.
The engine was dyno'd at 673hp in 2013. Mike said he estimates that it has about 70 more
H.P. now on pump gas.
The power flows through a G-force g101a 4- speed transmission, out back a ladder bar
rear suspension supports a Ford 9-inch rear end.
Mike said the Nova ran 9.78 through the
mufflers but he would be happy to run 9.90s with the Camaro. He usually races at WIR in Wisconsin, and used to belong to the Blacklist Outlaws exhibition group, they would do the fast street-car
grudge racing when he had his Nova .

His father owned land that's now the pit area beside Piedmont Dragway in North Carolina. His father raced a roadster and later raced a top alcohol funny car called the Starr Rider well into the 1990's. So you could say it was in Brad's DNA that he was destined to be a drag racer. We asked Brad how he started racing and what his earliest memories were. He stated the first thing he raced was 20" Schwinn 5-speed bike when he was 12 or 13 years old. Even early on he was a fabricator and equipped the bike with wheeli...

After Joe had his own kids he started going back to the track with his father again and fell in love with it all over again. The two have been going strong for 9-10 years now side-by-side racing. ...
Lee Smith's "Haulin-Hemi" A/FX Belvedere
Durring a ban from NASCAR during the 1965 season. The Plymouth AFX program was created to maximize the potential of the 426 Hemi engine in straight line acceleration competitions. The AFX class was Factory Experimental , the A was the largest engine displacement class. The Plymouth engineers found that if they could alter the weight distribution to create more traction for the powerful 426 Hemi engine, it would result in quicker elapsed times. By the rules, there was no rule as to where the wheelbase needed to be located. So the Plymouth and Dodge engineers moved or altered the wheelbase forward under the body for two reasons 1. to move the weight of the Hemi engine closer to the rear axle and 2 to put more weight over the rear tires. Smith was an Illinois racer who had a sponsor association with Learner’s Sales & Service, one of the largest Imperial sellers in America. That and his success in 1964 had gotten him one of ju...
