In 1969, Chrysler redesigned the C-Body platform to incorporate its new Fuselage styling that transformed it into a much sleeker design. The new C-Body design saw Chrysler ditching the cab forward look of the early-to-mid 1960's in favor of a more muscular silhouette mimicking the muscle cars of the era. By no means were these heavy weight sedans and coupes intended to be muscle cars, but some owners took matters into there own hands.
This 1971 Plymouth Fury is owned by Anthony Biella. Like most of us Anthony fell in love with cars at a young age, he grew up working at his family's shop, Capital Discount Muffler in Islip Terrace, NY.
He would go to work with his father and they would always be working on Mustangs & Firebirds, his father owned a 65 Mustang and his uncles owned 68 & 69 Firebirds.
Anthony enjoyed going to car shows with his father, there he could experience the sights and sounds and even the smells of high-performance cars. Hearing the lope of a high-compression big-block and smelling the high-octane fuel left a lasting impression on him.
Anthony said that this is the first car he ever raced down a drag strip, he races in Calverton, NY, though Cecil county was his favorite track. He doesn't run in any specific class because he just enjoys making a full throttle pass.
The power plant is Chrysler 440 big-block built by Dutchman Fabrication in Bohemia, NY. It features 10.3:1 Cr. pistons, a Bullet cam spec's out at 242/248 duration, with .516/.520 lift. The top end is capped off with ported Stealth heads. It breaths through an old school Edelbrock Torker-2 intake manifold. It is fed by a Fi-Tech fuel injection system.
Other drivetrain goodies include a 46Rh transmission with an Ultrabell bellhousing to adapt to the big-block, a bolt in sprag and a 4.2 lever give it positive shifts along with a manual valve body and 3000 RPM stall converter make this big C-body move out. The fumes exit through TTI headers and 3-inch Dyno/Max mufflers.
Rounding out the rest of the drive train is a Ford 9-inch rear filled with 4.11 gears and a Detroit locker. Anthony's best ET to date has been on drag radials at Cecil County, 12.72 @ 108 MPH. Anthony thanks his wife Susan for her support, his father, and three sons, Mason, Austin and Brandon. They all help him with the car. As well as his late friend Sal and good buddy Scott.
When not working on the Fury his favorite thing to do is spending time watching two of his sons play sports, and now his oldest his starting to work on his first car, an 04' Mustang. It's great watching him wrench and learn . You can say that history is repeating its self.
