This Duster bodied Nitro Funny Car is also a '27 Fuel Altered based out of West Palm Beach , Florida . Michael Harrigan is the owner and Crew Chief & Chris King is at the controls .
Chris has been a full-time firefighter for 23 years, the last 10 in The Windy City. He assigned to Special Operations Heavy Rescue.
Some of his work includes going into
fires in collapsed buildings, and pulling out people trapped under rubble, saving people in
elevators, & SCUBA diving into Lake Michigan.
King has dreamed of being a drag race driver since he was a kid "growing up at Great Lakes Dragway . He went to all the Labor Day races & every nitro and jet-car show 'Broadway Bob' had," he said. "I've always wanted to get to the big leagues, and a few years ago he decided that it was
time to get a Top Fuel license .
Chris earned his Nitro Funny Car competition license
in Paul Richards nitro funny car under the guidance of Paul Smith late in 2018. King has been
actively pursuing sponsorship partners.
Team owner Michael Harrigan is the owner of The Kustom
Emporium along with Wild Card Racing. He has painted several race cars for Paul Richards Racing,
Chris Karamesines and Paul Smith .
Mike states that they have a good safe
car and it runs consistently without hurting it. He loves racing and looks forward to having fun and
success with Chris and the Chaos Series.
King requested and was issued the competition number 343, a significant number for its importance
to him personally and to the fire service as it is the number of FDNY firefighters killed on 9/11 during the World Trade Center terrorist attack.
Here is a view of the
1927 Fuel Altered body .
The
motor is a Brad Anderson 498 Chrysler Hemi with a 6-71 Hampton blower, 21 gal. fuel
pump, and a 2 speed Lenco transmission connected to a fabricated 9" Ford floater rear.
In 2019 they did one Funny
Car Chaos (FCC) event and planned on the full season in 2020. They ran
well in the first FCC event in Lufkin, TX. in March and then Covid hit the nation . Their
next FCC outing was in Eddyville Iowa. Mike said that they qualified #5 but hurt the
motor in q2 and that sidelined us for the rest of the season.
They are looking for sponsors for the Duster for some NHRA events in their Nitro Funny car class. It is a chance for Chris to expand his career.
There are some videos on the teams Facebook page :

His father owned land that's now the pit area beside Piedmont Dragway in North Carolina. His father raced a roadster and later raced a top alcohol funny car called the Starr Rider well into the 1990's. So you could say it was in Brad's DNA that he was destined to be a drag racer. We asked Brad how he started racing and what his earliest memories were. He stated the first thing he raced was 20" Schwinn 5-speed bike when he was 12 or 13 years old. Even early on he was a fabricator and equipped the bike with wheeli...
Scott Robinson's "Bionic Wasp" 68' Camaro
Scott Robinson is from southern California and has been into cars his whole life, his earliest memories recount his time spent with his father and his friends. Scott's father raced all types of vehicles, drag boats, sand rails, and cars. These experiences made a major impression on Scott and he couldn't wait to be old enough to drive. When he was old enough, he got heavy into off-road motorcycles then when he got his driver's license all bets were off. Scott forgot about racing motorcycles and went all in and started racing cars. The first car he raced wasn't car at all, it was a 1975 Chevy van. But this wasn't any old worn out work van. This van belonged to Scott's father, it featured a destroked 400 cube small-block built by Scott's Dad, it's backed up with a TH-400 automatic transmission and a narrowed 12-bolt rear end. Scott said it was fun ride for his first car, and when he graduated high-school his father gave it to him. The father and son ...
Butch Hill's 1939 Ford Coupe
Like most gear heads in his age group, Butch Hill notes that while growing up, he took a particular liking to hot rods as a result of the influence from his father, Don. He was known as the Hill-Boys Race Team in the dirt/asphalt racing circuit. Although his involvement with hot rods came from his father. His mother, Marilyn, was one of his biggest fans and supporters. Butch made frequent trips to the drag strips to check out what was running. The “look and power” of those cars was something that intrigued him. Needless to say, he was always on the hunt for cool hot rods. In 1978 Butch was driving through a local neighborhood and noticed a 1939 Ford Coupe in a driveway. He decided to stop and ask if the car was for sale. The owner answered the door and agreed to sell it to him. After a quick look-over, the deal was done . He dove into his new purchase with a tune up on the 396 big block Chevy ...
