Manson Myles 1968 Dodge Dart 270

This is the second car we are featuring from Manson Myles , it is a 1968 Dodge Dart 270.  The car will be on display at the Summit Racing store in Atlanta , Georgia   March 15th 2021 .

The previous owner was Pat Moore from North Carolina.  His dream was to build a street strip machine that was respected and feared.  After 2 blown engines and some health issues he simply wanted something he could drive and unloaded the car in a trade to his good buddy David Robinson.  Before David got too attached to the car, Manson talked David into selling it to him.  As soon as Manson Brought it home he began the work of completing Pats dream.

The engine is a  fresh short block with 10.5:1 compression,  and a  Hughes camshaft with over .550lift bumps the valves. Manson installed aluminum Eldebrock heads with mild port work and 1.5 roller rocker arms.  Topping off this high winding small block is an Eldebrock RPM intake manifold.

While a Quick Fuel 850 drag race carburetor lets the engine breathe.
All the fuel lines were done with Aeroquip fittings and Russell aluminum lines.  A 10 gallon fuel cell is mounted in the trunk , with an Aeromotive Electric fuel pump that is mounted in the rear. It feeds a Carter competition mechanical pump mounted on the engine.
Manson said a nitrous oxide plate system with a 175hp shot was added as an after thought, not that it needs it.  It has a timing retard with a window switch and a purge valve . There is an arming switch on the shifter console and a micro switch on the side of the carb.

For Cooling a Natural finish Be Cool radiator with built in Transmission cooler. And a  Flow cooler water pump.

For ignition ,Manson went with an MSD 6AL2 box and their Pro Billet distributor.  Taylor 8.8mm wire and a 75amp one wire alternator keep the fire lit .

For exhaust Manson is using ceramic coated headers with 3" XR1 Racing Mufflers .

The transmission is a Chrysler 904 (Original to the car) but with a  manual valve body and a 3500 RPM Dayco converter.  Summit racing supplied the deep Transmission pan with a Cheetah Super Competition Shifter.  The drive shaft is stock but equipped with Moroso billet caps.

The rear Differential is the tried and true Chrysler 8 3/4 with 35 spline Moser axles, and a spool turning 4.30 gears.

Manson had a good Friend, Wayne Martin of Nicholasville Kentucky paint the body it's original poly blue.  Manson said Wayne sadly passed recently.  The rear wheel tubs were widened by Another good friend David Robinson who also did some suspension and chassis work.

All lights were upgraded to LED and the headlights were done using an H4 conversion with  LED bulbs.  Just spoilers made the chin spoiler.  Everything else is stock replacements.  The stock gas cap was replaced by one from a 69 Dodge Charger.  And a bolt on 6 Pak style hood scoop was added for a bit of fresh air.

The bench seat was removed and replaced with 65 Cuda' bucket seats.  The entire interior was redone in it's original poly blue to include the carpet.  All the factory gauges are now fed by Autometer sending units.  An Autometer shift light/ tach was installed along with a digital volt meter.  A set of RCI bolt in seat belts replaced the stock units along with a LeCarra steering wheel.

Billet Specialties wheels were used ,15x4's on the front and 15x10's on the rear.  Manson runs 325/50-15 Hoosier drag radials.

A Magnum Force racing tubular K member is used up front with PST control arms and a quick ratio manual steering box.  A set of travel limiters helps set things right on those hard launches.  QA1 shocks are controlling the front.  David Robinson custom built the 2x3 box tubing frame connectors and installed the S&W Race Car ladder bar suspension.  Manson replaced the standard shocks with Afco dual adjustable units for the rear.
