A Funny Car for the street ?
During the 60's & 70's many racing fans saw these ground pounding machines at the track and wanted to capture the same look for the street.
Craig Cochran had the idea and the skills needed to adapt a funny car for street driving. It had to have a flashy paint job, killer bodywork and plenty of horsepower.
This car is street legal, its complete with head lights and tail lights. The exhaust system looks like came off a funny car, but they're hiding Sanderson baffles that are made from stainless 2-1/4 tubing.
Since it was titled the car only accumulated 3,000 miles and it still shows very well.
The front suspension was equipped with Mustang II style control arms and coil over shocks. The steering system was upgraded to a manual Flaming River rack& pinion giving the Camaro positive control. The rear is set up with ladder bars and coil over shocks suspending a Chrysler 8 3/4 rear-end, its filled with a Power-loc differential and Moser axles. Willwood disk's are at each corner.
The power plant is a Chevrolet 496 cube big-block. It was machined and assembled by Ron Flood from Cedar Machine . It was dyno- tested at 557 H.P. and 590 Ft.Lbs. of torque by G&S Dyno out of Schafer, Minn. The engine features classic good looks and features a polished tunnel ram and a pair of carbs built by Pat Ott from the Carburetor Shop, and a set of finned rocker covers by Mickey Thompson finish off the bling. An electric water pump and a huge aluminum radiator keep it cool. The engine s backed up with a TH 350 transmission that was built by Mike Ruth from Ruthless Performance, it features a manual valve body.
