Tim Hutz's 79' Corvette

Tim Hutzenbuehler is better known as "Tim Hutz". Tim is from Milton, Florida and has been into cars and racing almost his whole life. He grew up by a near by hi-performance shop and got to see hot rods and race cars pass him by daily.

On a rare occasions he witnessed some of these cars doing burnouts down the street. when Tim was in his teens he had some friends who owned 1970-72 Chevy Novas and when a local drag strip opened he spent a majority of his twenties watching his friends race and then he starting building his own cars and trucks to race.

Tim's first taste of racing was when he built up his high school ride, a 1978 Chevy C10 pick-up, he also hung out with a group of hot-rodders from town. After gaining some experience with the C10 he was asked to drive a big-block 1970's Trans-Am. When Tim launched the car he felt the rush of adrenaline flowing through his veins, at this moment he said he was hooked on drag racing!

Tim's next race car was a 1983 Mazda RX-7, he had the opportunity to have Joey'Hero" Martin of (JMRC) do the major construction on the car. Joey built a custom roll cage, installed mini tubb's and hung a 9-inch Ford rear end with some ladder bars. The Mazda was powered by a Pro-Charged Chevy small-block running a Fast fuel injection system. Tim got help with the tuning from Steve petty.

Eddie Overmere painted and helped finish the Mazda and Tim raced the RX-7 in the 6.50 index and latter moved up to the faster 5.70 index, from 2006 to 2018 Tim won several races. Even after starting a family in 07', Tim was still able to race thanks to a partnership with his friend and father in-law Rickey Davidson. At the end of 2018 Tim sold the Mazda, in Feb. of 2021 he had the support of his wife Ashley to purchase this 1979 Corvette.

The Corvette's engine features a strong foundation, starting with a Dart SHP block. It's filled with a Callies crank and Diamond pistons and it's capped off with a set of Patriot cylinder heads. It's under pressure thanks to a front mounted Procharger supercharger.

The rest of the drivetrain features a Powerglide transmission rocking a PTC converter. The power hits the track & street Via. Fab 9-inch rear end filled with Mark Williams center chunk and 40-spline axles. .

The Corvette is also street driven and its set up to run the local Real Street 5.70 class but it will find its way into some 5.30 Lil Gangster events when time allows.

The interior is all business, starting with a full roll cage, racing seats with safety harness, and a full array of gauges.

Tim likes to drive his son to school in the Corvette and takes it some local car shows.

His goals set and he would like to get into the 4.00 index with it. When not racing his own car Tim is also a crew member for Robert Davis Racing in the Mid-West PDRA Pro-Mod series.

Tim is very thankful for the support of his wife Ashley, daughter Ariel and son Cody. And for help with the fabrication and set-up he thanks Dustin Slevin, A.J. Skipper and Kenny Hansen.
